A couple of days ago I got into a conversation about the Drawstring Shoe Bag with Patricia, my proof reader from Life’s A Stitch in Sault Ste. Specifically the wash away stabilizer, and what to do in a hands on class. Using wash away stabilizer, such as Aqua magic, in class is difficult; you don’t always have the time to wash out the stabilizer and dry the fabric enough for stitching. In some projects you can wash the project once it is complete; in fact this is what I suggest for the Drawstring shoe Bag. However if you don’t want to wash the shoe bag you can use one of the mesh stabilizers, such as Whisper Web Mesh, Polymesh or even the Fusible “No-Show” Mesh. These stabilize properly, you do not need to wash them away and they are fine enough not to add extra bulk. The only reason for using a wash away with eyelet embroidery is because the item is usually seen from the front and the back (like in table linens and garments). But the shoe bag is lined, so there is no reason why you can’t use a fine leave-in stabilizer.
