This month it’s a beautiful, softly gathered handbag. It includes a zipped pocket on the inside and a snap closure. The long handle allows you to wear it over the shoulder or across the body. For more glam, we’ve embellished the embroidery with tiny Swarovski hotfix crystals. Loved the bag so much that I made two of them. I made the first bag from butter-soft goatskin leather. The goatskin was incredibly easy to sew. It was just like sewing regular fabric, almost. I purchased the goatskin leather from Perfect Leather Goods Ltd. in Toronto. They have an amazing selection of leather.
For the second bag I used leather for the embroidered strip and made the rest of the bag from medium weight linen. You can make this bag in any combination you like. If you want to try your hand at sewing leather, but are not really sure, the fabric and leather combo is a great way to get the feel. The sewing instructions include tips on sewing with leather and the coordinating embroidery design set, Leather Borders #sc064d is specially designed for stitching on leather.
If you’re not really into leather, don’t worry, the designs look just as pretty on regular fabrics. And you can can make the bag entirely from linen, cotton or cotton velveteen with equally good results.
