Potluck dinners are weekly occurrence in my family. Someone is always transporting food somewhere; and much of the time it’s right out of the oven. So naturally you have to have some kind of a casserole carrier. Actually I have several casserole carriers, in different shapes and sizes. This one is a take on the placemat casserole carrier, although it is a bit wider and longer than regular placemats. I wanted to make it roomy enough to fit a standard 9” x 13” baking dish comfortably – and it does. Need a casserole carrier for 8” or 9” casserole dishes? Simply shorten the strips of fabric.
We used variegated 40wt rayon for the embroidery. The variation in thread color gives this simple embroidery depth. By the way, you can also use 30wt cotton. For example Sulky 30wt Blendables would look beautiful.
I used ribbon to tie the open end closed. Patricia, my proof reader from Life's A Stitch in Sault Ste. Marie, plans to make ties with one of her fabrics and a bias tape maker. She intends to use them instead of the ribbon. Nice touch Patricia.
