I am a great aunt once again. My nephew and his wife just had a beautiful baby girl. For a change I am ready with a gift. I made this quilt, fish softie and blocks, back in October in anticipation of the baby. My nephew and his wife were very tight lipped about the baby's gender, so I had to go with some gender neutral colors. At least I think they are gender neutral. They are a little bit bright, so keeping fingers crossed they like everything. The fishy theme is right on, my Nephew loves fishing. I saved some time designing by using a bunch of terrific tutorials I found online.
I used this tutorial to make the quilt, except I added an extra border along the top and lower edges. Not that I needed a larger quilt, but just wanted to add the baby’s name in the white strip. The additional border gives it a better finish.
The lettering is made in my embroider software. The fish are from Sea Creatures Embroidery Designs #509sbd. You can get this set in my Etsy store.
I loved making this fish softie. The tutorial includes a small and large fish, I made the large one.
There are tons of tutorials for making baby blocks, but I like this one. I skipped the ribbon for my blocks but embroidered them with fun fishies and lettering. The letters are from Seasonal Bunting Embroidery Designs #sc074d.
The fish and Octopus are from Under the Sea Embroidery Designs #sc059d. The clown fish is a single design that comes in three sizes. I combined the small clown fish with the anemone. You can download the anemone here for free!
