September club project

It’s the middle of August. Here in Toronto that signals two things; the opening of the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) and the end of summer. For Sew Creative Embroidery club members it means the September club project is now available – yay! This September I have a festive tortilla warmer or Tortillero for you. Embroidery club members click here to read more about the embroideries and to download an embroidery design spec sheet and a project supplies list. Retailers; watch for your project and designs in your email.

A Tortillero is the traditional Mexican way to keep your tortillas warm.  Whether you make your own tortillas, or buy and re-heat them, the tortilla warmer keeps your tortillas warm and ready for your fresh tacos, fajitas, etc. This pretty pocket keeps them from getting wet, soggy or sticky and keeps them fresh, soft and warm during your entire meal.

I use the tortilla warmer when making enchiladas. The tortillas need to be warm and pliable, but following the recipe takes way too long and adds a ton more calories. So, I simply place a stack inside the tortilla warmer and microwave them. They keep nice and warm and perfect for rolling.

I love this enchilada recipe from The Pioneer Woman. And if you are in the mood, you can make your own tortillas – great recipe here.
